Triads and Energies

What I know about triads and energies is from observing myself. Last week I was feeling a call to action. My Aunt Rae, bless her 90-something year old soul, read my blog and commented, “You referenced triad a number of times. I’m not sensing the composition of a triad or where it exists for you. A little guidance when you have time please.”

Her thoughtful question has helped me focus on the theme of triads and energies I so casually mentioned in my previous blog. Here is my (expanded) reply to Aunt Rae:

For context, triads and energies play a large role in the teaching that we received from Mr. Bennett at Sherborne House. Triads are often spoken of as The Law of Three. Then again, the Christian church has the Trinity. Within both contexts, there are forces or energies at play.

From Gurdjieff, via Bennett, I am familiar with the basic triad of 1,2,3. With 1 standing for “active” force, 2 standing for “negative,” or “receptive” force, and 3 standing for the “reconciling” force. i.e. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Force Configuration

As for my end of summer blues and my call-to-action blogs:

Week before last, I was experiencing a 2,1,3 triad – in as far as I was feeling resistance (force 2) towards the familiar end of summer change that was in the air.

But rather than rushing into doing something new (force 1), I wanted to adjust the triadic energies and allow 2nd force, the receptive, to direct me. As I resisted the impulse to take charge with a new activity, I began to be in a space where I noticed things. A branch in the road that I could move. A friend who needed cheering up in the hospital. New input to our Claymont 50th planning committee.

Last week I rode that wave by waiting until some action called my attention to it. By doing that, a need arose from outside myself, allowing something new to enter—a 3rd or “reconciling” force. This particular “call to action” manifested a 3,2,1 triad.

Triads in a Nutshell

Here’s how I experienced these triads and their energy: Instead of my usual 1,2,3 MO of acting fast, which creats resistance, then needs reconciliation, I shifted to a 2,3,1 triad of waiting, receiving direction, then acting.

The results became a manifestation of the 3,2,1 triad. The unexpected appears, I’m receptive to it; a need is met. An obstacle is removed from the road, a friend is shown love, an energetic shift is welcomed.

As Gurdjieff would say, these triads represent a “law conformable” interplay of forces. The Law of Three. I suppose watching the interplay between active, passive and reconciling energies in one’s self is a bit like playing the shell game. Switch them around and see if you can guess which one holds the pea. And change a stuck energetic pattern along the way.
