Bridging the Interval

Looking at ways to bridge the interval in an upcoming seminar, I decided to make an enneagram.

A fundraiser for Emberlight (9) was worthy, the presenters came together (1), and the planning was productive (2). But registration (4) doesn’t seem to be happening in the slam-dunk way I thought it would be. At first, everything was “roses, roses.” Now it’s “thorns, thorns.” People just aren’t signing up.

Informing the intervals

Looking at my enneagram, I see point 2 (planning) connects to 8, (the take-away). But I haven’t clarified in myself what I hope this weekend offers attendees. At the same time, it’s interesting to see that 8 connects to 5, which is Registrations. I feel I’ve  missed an energetic link here. What’s the inner aim for this weekend?

To Bridge the Interval

At first, I couldn’t see what was needed at point 3. I began by soul-searching. A shock is required, that’s for sure, because this mi-fa interval is filled with resistance. Yet in the world of triads, resistance represents the Holy Denying, which I remind myself is law conformable.

In fact, if I step back and review our process in terms of triads, it looks like we have been riding a 3-2-1 triad. Reconciling force at the beginning, where things fell nicely into place. Denying in the middle (the mi-fa interval full of resistance). Which leaves the Active force of effort to initiate and stay on track. But how to direct that? Is it inner or outer?

I gaze ahead at the second half of the enneagram. Standing at point 5 and looking down the lines, I see Registrations (attendees) connect both to the Take-Away (8) and The Event itself (7). This shows me that something needs to connect the event to the participants to get registrations. Clarifying this may break the energetic logjam between 2 and 4, and motivate my outreach.

Bridging the Mi-Fa with Work

All I know and can offer, is the Work, though the event itself is to promote Emberlight. Why have I not seen that the Work must be present? This is the answer to bridging the mi-fa interval. Even though the weekend doesn’t happen until point 7, I need to set the intention for inner work now, at point 3. In fact, I need to zero-in on what that work is and invite others to join in it.

At the same time, pondering what the shock at point 6 could be, Love appeared. The work at Emberlight embodies love. It is a palpable feeling as one enters the grounds, especially during the ritual crossing fire as a resident is bridging the Si-Do interval between life and death.

Here’s what the folks at Emberlight have to say:

Emberlight has always held both living and dying in the same hand. We are one of the few places that does. The questions that draw someone toward conscious living, how to be present, how to love well, how to meet the unknown, are the same questions that meet us at the threshold of death.

We keep noticing the deep overlap between those seeking inner growth and those who have come to see the end of life as one of its most transformative passages. This note is an invitation into that overlap, where those worlds meet.

 Where the interval is bridged.
